Common Causes of Scoliosis

  • Idiopathic scoliosis: The most common type of scoliosis. There’s no singular cause that we know of, but it’s closely linked to hormonal changes and is much more prevalent in women than men.
  • Injury history: Old injuries that knowingly or unknowingly altered your structure can gradually continue to worsen the curvature of your spine the longer it’s left unchecked.
  • Congenital abnormalities: When there are missing or partially formed vertebrae from birth, structural curvature can take place as the spine develops through the different milestones of life.
  • Upper cervical misalignment: Data suggests a correlation between scoliosis and misalignment in the upper spine. We analyze your entire structure when assessing a treatment approach for scoliosis.

Our new patient process is meticulous and thorough. We would love to conduct a comprehensive examination to determine a pathway forward for you.

"I came to Wilson Family Chiropractic after finding out at almost 50 years of age that I had "significant scoliosis deformity, primarily lumbar curvature with degenerative changes noted as well".

I was at the end of my rope with my pain, and my life had just stopped. I was looking at a serious surgery that I felt like I had to do quickly to get back to my life. Wilson Family Chiropractic have gotten my pain to a level that I can get some relief and look at my options. I cannot recommend them enough, they have truly given me some hope.

THANK YOU to all the staff at Wilson Family Chiropractic."

When Should You Seek Chiropractic Care for Scoliosis?

There are general tests that can be done to determine if you have an abnormal curvature in your spine, but these tests don’t always reveal the extent to which you might be structurally affected. We recommend seeking professional care if you experience:

  • A general screening confirming a possibly abnormal curve in your spine.
  • Chronic back pain or uneven posture that has presented without an acute incident or cause.
  • One of your shoulders or hips is sitting higher than the other.
  • There is a confirmed scoliosis diagnosis, and the individual is entering a phase of life in which their hormones change (e.g. puberty or menopause).

How Chiropractic Care Helps Scoliosis

Get effective relief by targeting the root cause of your Scoliosis

Managing scoliosis pain can be immensely effective in helping you continue to fully engage with the aspects of your life that matter most. Here’s how chiropractic care can help:

  • X-ray analysis before treatment: Part of our new patient exam is dedicated to taking and reviewing detailed X-rays of your entire structure before treatment even begins. We prioritize thoroughness and transparency throughout the entire process.
  • Chiropractic adjustments: Manual corrective care is crucial in addressing scoliosis pain because it allows for your spine to be manipulated and your nervous system to be re-regulated. Your shoulders and hips also often benefit from these adjustments.
  • Realistic and transparent targets: Scoliosis is not always fully correctable. Our chiropractic team applies clinically proven methods of treatment to effectively manage your specific case of scoliosis and promote practical, lasting relief to your spine.

We would love to come alongside you and help you take real steps on the road toward living at your best again.
