Dr. Jake grew up in rural Michigan. His passion early in life was sports but specifically football. It centered him and gave him something to work for. In an area that academics and health were not a priority football gave him the drive to focus to pursue both. He often credits football as the reason he kept his grades up and was the only one in his family to go to college. When he was in a traumatic car crash as a sophomore in high school the thing, he loved most was in jeopardy.
Following this life-threatening accident, he began experiencing severe headaches and brain fog. What we now know was post concussive syndrome. It was a terrifying experience for a young man with no guidance or answers. His grades and efforts on the field began to decline. He was left searching for answers.
One day a local chiropractor spoke to the football team. What he said piqued Jake’s interest and led him to schedule a new patient appointment. The Chiropractor took x-rays, did an exam, and gave Dr. Jake his first adjustment. Immediately following that adjustment, he began to feel better. After receiving care, the brain fog and the headaches resolved, and Dr. Jake knew he wanted to be a chiropractor.
Continuing The Dream
After high school Dr. Jake attended Grand Valley State University where he studied Biomedical Science and played football for Brian Kelly and won a national championship. It was a great experience, and he learned the hard work it takes to compete at a top-level program. His sophomore year he tore the labrum in his shoulder on the first scrimmage of the year. The tear was extensive in multiple areas, and he decided that it was time to end his football career. It was time to focus on academics and continue that dream of becoming a chiropractor.
In Fall of 2005 he moved to Georgia to attend Life University. In the first week of class, he met his future wife Dr. Kat. Upon graduating in 2009 Dr Jake alongside the support of his wife Dr Kat opened Wilson Family Chiropractic in Dunwoody Georgia. It has been a wonderful and challenging journey and over the years they built a practice that is a staple in the community. The dream of creating a beautiful, state of the art chiropractic office has become a reality. Now Dr. Jake enjoys the daily interactions with patients and seeing them overcome their own health obstacles.
Life Outside The Clinic
Most days when Dr. Jake is not seeing patients, he is spending time with his own family. Often going from soccer, to basketball, to theater, to martial arts or whatever else his three kids are involved in.
He has really grown to love the role of a Parent and Doctor who lives in service to others.
